From John Muir and Amelia Earhart to Anthony Bourdain and more.
I have never met any of my “heroes”. Mostly because they lived during a different time period, or passed away before a meet and greet could happen. I know I am this tiny speck of dust in the grand scheme of the universe (as explained by one of my favorites, Carl Sagan); however, I know I can impact someone’s life in a good way every day. I look to my heroes for #inspiration to keep working on myself.
John Muir (1838-1914)
John Muir is a true hero, not just to me, but to the world as a whole and more specifically the USA. He is the real reason the National Parks started. He is often overlooked because of Teddy Roosevelt, but I encourage you to read up on the work John Muir did to protect the beautiful lands we have in the USA. He is a fascinating person who went through many obstacles in his life. As a naturalist writer, he wrote many books and this is one of my favorite quotes:
“Nature is ever at work building and pulling down, creating and destroying, keeping everything whirling and flowing, allowing no rest but in rhythmical motion, chasing everything in endless song out of one beautiful form into another” – John Muir
Sometimes I wonder what John Muir would think of the world today. Is it how he imagined it? Would he be proud?
Amelia Earhart (1897-1937)
Her name alone speaks volumes! I admire her tenacity and sense of adventure. She never let someone prevent her from reaching for the stars and going after her dreams. Her story lives on and I am beyond happy to know that people are still searching for her and her plane. I am curious if before her passing if she knew just how inspirational she was and how she broke the glass ceiling leaving a path for women to follow. Women’s rights have come so far since the time of Amelia Earhart. She proved that women can do whatever they put their minds to.
TV hosts and shows!
Anthony Bourdain, Josh Gates, the show Departures, and more. I watch travel tv shows and I am truly in awe at the places they visit. I live vicariously through them and learn about places I might not ever be able to visit. In my opinion, they have one of the best jobs in the world. I know they can become exhausted (we all do), but I hope they know the work they are doing makes a difference in people’s lives. They inspire me to learn more languages, try new food, go off the beaten path, and pick destinations that are uncommon. Their excitement over #adventure always makes me look forward to planning my next trip. #Expeditionunknown
If you don’t know much about anyone I mentioned, I encourage you to look them up. Watch their shows, read up on the latest news regarding the search for Amelia Earhart, and read some of John Muir’s books. You will not be disappointed.
